Fashion Friday #1

17 Sep

I think on Fridays I’m going to try and post an outfit photo that features at least one item I bought second hand. Sometimes they’ll be vintage, sometimes not. Buying second hand is important to me. Not only does it save me money (whoo!) but it helps the environment by reducing the demand on new items.

I bought myself a mini tripod so I can take outfit photos now, whoo!

This is the other dress I had as an option to wear for my anniversary dinner with John. You know, the one that NO ONE voted for? LOL. Well, I like it a lot and I’m guessing it just doesn’t photograph well on the hanger. I had to give it some love today.

This isn’t the best photo to show it, but it has a cool print of houses and city streets and things like that. I’m pretty sure it is vintage, but I don’t know how old. The tag says “Crocodile Ladies” but I wasn’t able to find anything about that brand online.

I Want to Like You, I Do, but…

24 Mar

I got my Forever21 newsletter today, and I hardly ever open it, but it had “Wonderland” in the title so I thought I’d take a peek. And at first, I liked a bunch of the clothes. But then, when I looked at the pictures with the models, they all dropped down to something that can’t be worn. I don’t understand… if the MODEL looks weird in the items, how am I supposed to look cute??? Nevermind that a lot of the items are made out of polyester.  (Yuck)  And so short!  Why is everything so short, Forever21??  Here are the items that I liked:

I don’t know what their “Twisted” line (?) is, but I wish they would make it slightly more mainstream. I really want to wear these items! I might actually drag myself out to Eastview to try them on… not that I’ll be able to tell what I’ll really look like post-birth, but you know…

Thank You, Christine!

Just a couple quick pics to show off the adorable clothes my work-friend Christine got for the baby. SO CUTE! I’ve added them to the clothing tab (0-3 Months) so you guys can click over there if you want the details.

thredUP – Know About It?

11 Feb

This site looks interesting, but I’m not sure I like the price involved with it. Not that it’s a bad price, just that there is a price at all. I’m not sure I would use it enough to make it worth it. I’m assuming it works like Netflix, but I’m not sure…

So, anyone out there familiar with it or use it? Is it as awesome as it seems like it could be?

Tee-hee, I match the parking garage stairwell floor today.

Family Day Outfit

6 Jul

I photoshopped this little mock-up of the outfit I was thinking of putting together to wear next week on Family Day, when I go down to GA for John’s basic training boot camp graduation. I can’t tell if it’s adorable (which I think it is) or if it accidentally mocks them. I just don’t want to trivialize the medals/stripey pins that real soldiers get that actually mean something… mine will just be embroidery thread glued to a Popsicle stick, lol.

I’ve already heard from my mom’s friend Linda, who is an military wife, and she likes it, even if the navy is “so air force.” So that’s good. What do you think?

Edit: I’ve decided not to wear the outfit. Maybe the dress, but not the whole thing with the ribbons and what not. An American flag pin, yes – and the army wife thing as a necklace. Much more subtle. My friend John who is in the navy pointed out that with all those ribbons, even though not real – it would look like I out ranked *my* John! LOL. Not good! Thanks for all of your input though!

Dryer Incident

25 Jun

A while ago I talked about an incident that happened over the weekend, but I never went into detail about it. Well, I just got around to editing the photos, so here goes. I hope you learn something new.

1. NEVER PUT A PEN IN THE DRYER. It was fine for the washer, but didn’t like the dryer much. It exploded everywhere! I was like OMG, WHAT DO I DO?  So I googled it.  We rent, so I did not want a ruined dryer.

Luckily, it was a load of darks, so the pen didn’t show up too much. (Although both pairs of my jeans have pen marks all over them now. They’re not messed up…it’s couture, right?)

2. The internet told me to try a mix of things.  I used rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, and bleach.  The bleach didn’t do anything, the alcohol didn’t do much, but the big winner was the nail polish remover!  Oh man oh man did my basement smell!  I got light headed after a while.  Not fun.

3. Most of the obvious marks were gone, and the remaining ones were pretty light.  The drum had a blue hue though…  So I read a little more, and running towels drenched in bleach a couple times through the dryer would help.  And you know what, it really did!  I don’t know why, since the bleach had so little effect before, but whatever!  I didn’t take pictures of it, but I assure you, the dryer is much less blue than photographed above.  John’s mom said she never would have known a pen blew up in it if I hadn’t told her.

4. My shorts were also sacrificed in the process.  Stupid bleach!  Stupid me for not changing into crappy clothes!  I guess I was just in panic mode and not paying attention.

So, lesson learned.  Make John clean it next time he leaves a pen in his pocket. Check pockets before washing pants.
